Data Centre
The licensed data infrastructure behind research and teaching at LUBS.
Dr Han Jin
One managed home for the data our research runs on.
The Centre negotiates and holds the School's data subscriptions, maintains the terminals and software that read them, and looks after the secure environments where restricted material is stored. It also runs two confidential local data storage units for material held under agreement with external institutions, kept inside the University's secure systems, fully audited, and released only under the terms those agreements set.
LUBS Student Resources →
We also provide different access routes for other groups to meet the standard: LUBS research staff, LUBS postgraduate researchers, and University of Leeds staff and students.
Dr Han Jin operates the Research Data Centre as an independent unit. The remit covers the Centre's strategy and investment case, institutional licences, access control, information governance, data security and compliance, data sharing agreements, and the trading rooms, software estate and training provision. His research spans data science, empirical finance, corporate governance, corporate sustainability and innovation, and he holds certifications in Machine Learning and AI for Business. He also serves as a University Data Champion, sits on the Open Research Group and the Data Classification and Storage Task and Finish Group, and is a panel member of the Horizons Institute Interdisciplinary Assessment College.
LUBS Research access
Detailed database lists, licence conditions and request forms live on the pages below. All require a University of Leeds sign-in, and all three are maintained as the authoritative record for their audience. Other database lists circulating elsewhere in the Faculty are not maintained by the Centre and should not be relied on.

University wide access
LUBS Research Data Centre provides secure, trusted and well-governed access to high-quality data resources, and contributes to the University's research excellence, strengthening its data-driven capabilities, and supporting its strategic ambition to deliver research and education of global impact. A selection of the Centre's holdings is available to all University of Leeds staff and students, currently supporting over 7,000 active users in their research, teaching and learning.
Library business resources
The Bureau van Dijk platform is purchased and maintained by the Centre and is available to all Leeds staff and students through the Library.
Orbis, FAME, Bank Focus, Crossborder Investment, Intellectual Property, M&A.
LUBS rooms built for the data
Some sources can only be used where they are licensed to sit. The Centre maintains dedicated physical space for exactly that, available to LUBS staff and LUBS students only.
Two LUBS trading rooms
Rooms GM 01 and 3.14 in the Esther Simpson Building (ES), fully equipped with a suite of Bloomberg terminals and maintained by the Centre for LUBS use. They are used for supervised research sessions, taught market-simulation work, and hands-on training on terminal functions and data retrieval.
Data taken from the terminals remains subject to the provider's licence and may not be redistributed outside the University.
"We open our existing licences as widely as they allow, holding back only what licence terms, data protection law and information security require."
Every route is staffed and checked. A person reviews requests, maintains the systems and stands behind the compliance framework, but that work happens behind the process rather than in front of it. If you are an eligible user, you follow the standard route and submit for yourself.
